On the last day the main intrigue of the squad period was unveiled: Joachim Lew, the head coach of the Germany national football team — the defending World Cup Champion, announced 23 players to take part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The following enter the list:
Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Kevin Trapp (Paris Saint-Germain), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona).
Defenders: Marvin Plettenhardt (Hertha), Jonas Hector (Keln), Matthias Ginter (Borussia M), Antonio Reudinger (Chelsea), Mats Hummels, Niklas Suele, Jerome Boateng, Joshua Kimmich (all — Bayern).
Midfielders: Sami Khedira (Juventus), Julian Draxler (Paris Saint-Germain), Tomi Kroos (Real), Metus Oezil (Arsenal), Leon Goretzka (Bayern), Sebastian Rudy (Bayern), Julian Brandt (Bayer 04), Ilkay Guendogan (Manchester City).
Forwards: Timo Werner (RB Leipzig), Marco Reus (Borussia D), Thomas Mueller (Bayern), Mario Gomez (Stuttgart).
The final squad includes one of the best goalkeepers of the world Manuel Neuer. Neuer didn`t perform over a year because of an injury, therefore entering the squad for the goalkeeper out of practice is high risk. However, there is no guarantee that Neuer will become number one of the team on the tournament. Two other German goalkeepers Kevin Trapp and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are equally worthy of being regulars.
Talented 22-year-old Leroy Sane was not called into the squad which makes up the main sensation. Sane was one of the leaders of Manchester City for the last season and he was regularly called into the Germany national team for the last two years. Nevertheless, he does not go to Russia — Lew tilted toward Julian Brandt.
The Germany national team has an excellent set of performers and, certainly, will become one of the main contenders for the victory on the tournament.
