Otkritie Arena Stadium on the Moscow map:
Historically, the most popular Moscow football team Spartak has had no its own stadium. Over years the team have met their opponents on different capital arenas: Luzhniki, Dynamo, Lokomotiv, Torpedo. After the USSR collapse and the market economy transition, Spartak seriously became aware of their home arena construction, but for many years these plans could not be carried out. First, in the 90th the club had not enough means for such large-scale construction. Then, in the late nineties and the early 2000th the site problems appeared.
On the first site allocated by the Moscow Government to Spartak, construction didn't start because of protests of ecologists and locals. The second allocated site appeared to be owned partly by the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (ВДНХ), therefore Spartak couldn't start construction again. Only in the late 2006 Leonid Fedun, the Spartak owner, made the decision to start construction and investment. It was decided to build the stadium on the site of the abandoned airfield Tushino.
The stadium construction began in 2007, originally it was planned to finish the arena in 2009. However, the financial crisis interfered with the course of construction. In 2008 construction completely stopped, fortunately, for a while. In 2014 the stadium was finished five years later the planned date of the arena commissioning.
The first football match at the new stadium was held in the early September, 2014 when Spartak received at home the Serbian club Сrvena Zvezda. In November, 2014 Otkritie Arena became the base stadium for the Russian national football team which carried out at the Spartak stadium the rest of qualifying matches for the European Championship 2016.
Otkritie Arena is used not only as a sports venue, but also as a venue for large concert events. For example, in 2016 Otkritie Arena hosted such music bands as Muse and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The main feature of the stadium is that Otkritie Arena became the first stadium in Russia constructed at the expense of private funds. Later, in Krasnodar another stadium opened which was constructed not for the state budget, but there won`t be World Cup matches. The stadium is constructed for private fund and has its owner, it is thought out to the last detail.
First of all, the stadium has excellent transport accessibility. Near Otkritie Arena there are two metro stations. Those spectators who don't want to go by metro to the stadium can use ground-based public transport — about 30 various routes stop at the stadium. There is the railway station “Tushino” nearby. At Otkritie Arena there is also a parking lot for 8000 cars.
At the stadium there is a restaurant zone for over 1000 seats, a nursery with skilled animators, a conference room. The stadium is equipped with special elevators for handicapped persons to let them visit Otkritie Arena comfortably.
The stadium is only the first part of the huge and ambitious project “The Tushino City”. Near the main sports arena large-scale construction is on the planning stage: tennis courts, a pool, business centers, a housing area. Also, a recreation area with parks and cafes along the river is planned.
Stadium weak points
The stadium is constructed under the modern project, it has the pitch excellent view from any point at the tiers. Transport accessibility is perfect for Moscow: there are two metro stations nearby. Guests of the capital, certainly, will get thrilled with Otkritie Arena visit.
