Eight national football teams take part in the Confederations Cup. At the first stage the teams are divided into two groups of four which play the round-robin tournament. The best two teams of each group get to the semi-final. In case of equality of points for two or more teams, the team scoring the best goal differences is considered as a higher one. In case of this indicator equality, the team which scored more goals is higher.
In the semi-final, the teams taking the top spot in their groups meet the teams which took the second place in the second group (i.e. semi-final pairs are formed as follows: A1 – B2, B1 – A2). If the regular time of the playoff match is draw, then it is extended for extra 30 min. In case of draw under the results of extra time the match winner is defined by a penalty shootout.
Winners of semi-final matches reach the final where they play the Confederations Cup. The teams which lost the semi-final meet in a match for the 3rd place.
